Ombdusman Council for Rights of Persons with Disabilities is established in Serbia

Ombudsman has established Council for Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Elderly with task to provide additional expertise and support in relation with realization and protection of rights of these citizens. Members of the Council are Vidan Danković (Association for Accessibility Revision), Ivanka Jovanović (National Organization of Persons with Disabilities), Dragana Ćirić Milovanović (MDRI), Gordana Rajkov (NGO Center for Independent Living), mr Miodrag Počuč, dr Damjan Tatić, (member of UN Committee for rights of persons with disabilities) and dr Miloš Nemanjić, (Association of Gerontology of Serbia).

Over the next period Council will be support to ombudsman in relation with improvement of work and acting of public institutions in charge for realization of rights of these groups of citizens. Accessibility to institutions and better access to information, more efficient realization of right to work and right for proper social and health protection, but also building capacities of local authorities to provide quality services to persons with disabilities and elderly are the priorities for ombudsman related to realization of their human rights.

Initial Report on Implementation of UN Convention of Persons with Disabilities to UN Committee for Rights of Persons with Disabilities

Republic of Serbia has officially submitted Initial Report on Implementation of Convention to UN Committee for rights of persons with disabilities with 10 months delay. It is expected that the report will not be reviewed before 2015. In the meantime we should continue to work on monitoring of human rights of persons with disabilities pressuring the state to fulfill its obligations towards UN Convention and monitor the implementation of UNCRPD by civil society.

Regional Center for Monitoring of Rights of Persons with Disabilities which is active within COD and Autism Society of Serbia will continue to build capacities of organizations of persons with disabled in a field of monitoring of rights of persons with disabilities.
