COD is established as a civil society organisation with an aim to change the paradigm of reflections of third sector and active participation in different aspects of society operating in the range of constitution multi-sector, multiethnic, local and regional cooperation for development of equal opportunities for all citizens in Republic of Serbia.
Centre for Society Orientation mission is to build capacities of local actors in Republic of Serbia during transition period as to be participators in all processes of development of civil society and users of equal opportunities.
Center for Society Orientation carried out its activities through two programs components:
Capacity building, Advocacy and Lobbying Empowerment and capacity-building of Civil Society Organizations – CSO’s dealing with vulnerable groups in our society with aim to upgrade political and social acting of vulnerable groups undertaking responsible role and being active stakeholders of civil society. Centre for Society Orientation especially emphasizes education, both formal and non formal, through educative programs, specialized trainings, open tribunes and seminars aiming to improve activism in community and therewith encourage vulnerable groups themselves to take over initiatives and implement their own ideas in the future. As important component of its activities, the Center involves work with marginalized/vulnerable groups such as persons with disabilities, Roma population, LGBT population, street children and members of minority communities targeting their inclusion and active participation in developmental transition of civil society.
Regional cooperation and networking Improvement and facilitation of local, national and regional cooperation among vulnerable groups and thier organisations, and state deputies with purpose to constitute partnerships and cooperative work in advancement of civil society functions and exchange of practice. COD has initiated form of non-formal network of civil society organisations (on the end of 2007.) in order to establish cooperative work on society orientation through implementation of different programs in framework of its activities. The network consists of 21 member organisations. The network acts on development of mutual programs on the territory where it is operative as well as on establishing cross-border cooperation. The network is operational in Serbia, UN temporary administered province Kosovo (UNSCR 1244) and Montenegro. |
